Student answer (Band 6.0)

The graph illustrates the number of individuals participated in distinct activities for a time frame of about 20 years in Melbourne, Australia. Overall, it is evident that Film club remains pre-dominant while Amateur dramtics experienced a significant dip after 2005.

From 2000 to 2010 the number of participants were dropped gradually from 65 to 60, but after 2010 the participants rose to 65 in 10 years. Martial Arts have fluctuation in participants over 20 years and the participants same which is approximamtely 35. Furthermore, Amatuer dramatics has a noticeable tumble of participants after 2005 which is around 25 and in 2020 there are only 5 participants.

The number of participants in table tennis escaltes dramatically after 2010 from 20 participants and due to this in 2020 there are around 50 participants. Moreover, Musical performances did not have any participant till 2005 but next 15 years the number of participants climbs up to around 20.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main overall pattern: the film club remains the largest activity, amateur dramatics declines markedly, and table tennis grows strongly. Most reported figures and trends are consistent with the graph, including the film club’s rise after 2010 and musical performances starting at zero. However, the overview is brief and does not capture the major contrast that table tennis becomes the second-largest activity by 2020. Some details are also imprecise: martial arts fluctuates around the mid-30s rather than staying the same, and table tennis already rises from 16 to 20 before 2010. To strengthen the report, include a clearer overview of the most significant changes and describe the intermediate stages more accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by two paragraphs describing the activities. This makes the information easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore,” and “Moreover” help signal relationships. However, the grouping of trends could be more deliberate, and some connections are awkward or unclear. For example, “and due to this” does not clearly explain the relationship between table tennis’s growth and its 2020 figure. The repeated use of “participants” also makes the progression feel somewhat mechanical. Organise the details around contrasting trends—for example, stable activities versus those that rise or fall—and use clearer references to the figures and years.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing a graph, including “gradually,” “fluctuation,” “noticeable,” and “dramatically.” These choices help communicate the main trends, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, several inaccurate or misspelled expressions, such as “pre-dominant,” “dramtics,” “approximamtely,” “Amatuer,” and “escaltes.” Some word choices are also unnatural for formal data reporting: “tumble of participants” and “climbs up” are less suitable than standard trend language. Aim for precise, conventional collocations such as “the number of participants fell” or “rose sharply,” and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the overall meaning remains understandable. Some sentences are controlled, such as “Musical performances did not have any participant till 2005,” while other structures show errors in agreement and verb form. For instance, “the number of participants were dropped” should use a singular subject and an active verb, and “Martial Arts have fluctuation” needs a more accurate verb construction. The opening phrase “individuals participated” also requires a grammatical form such as “individuals participating.” These errors do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Check subject–verb agreement, use consistent past-tense reporting, and practise forming clauses around “the number of participants.”
