Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant trends, especially the sharp rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is unclear and contains a key contradiction: it says amateur dramatics and musical performances rise, although amateur dramatics falls substantially. The claim that film club and martial arts remain stable is broadly accurate, but the figures are confused in “approximately 38%, around 65%,” and the chart reports participant numbers, not percentages. Musical performances begin at zero and rise to about 18, rather than starting an upward trend from the outset. Select the main comparisons accurately and support them with clear, correctly labelled figures to make the summary more complete and reliable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and paragraphs describing the activities. Grouping the declining amateur dramatics with the more stable activities, then contrasting the rising series, gives the reader some useful organisation. However, progression is weakened by the contradictory overview and by unclear links within sentences. For example, “In 2000, the film club and martial arts participated by approximately 38%, around 65%” makes the comparison difficult to follow, while repeated “Whereas” and “On the other hand” do not always connect complete, clearly expressed ideas. Use one clear overview, then organise details by trend, with each sentence comparing related figures in a logical order.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “increased,” “dropping,” and “stable rate,” and attempt to describe different degrees of change with “slightly” and “dramatically.” However, the range and control are limited by repeated or unsuitable expressions. “Uprising trend” and “starting its journey” are not natural descriptions of chart data, while “skyrocketed” is overly informal for an academic report. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “flim,” “stabale,” “perfomance,” and “untill,” which reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of trend verbs and nouns, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using clauses and contrast markers, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors sometimes make relationships between figures hard to understand. For example, “there were five types of activities that participated by the Australian” lacks a correct passive construction, and “the amateur followed a constant rate” does not form a clear grammatical description. The sentence beginning “In 2000, the film club and martial arts participated by…” also has an incomplete verb pattern and confusing structure. Tense and clause control are inconsistent, as in “from early stage its experienced upward.” Practise accurate simple comparisons first, then add subordinate clauses, checking subjects, verbs, articles, and punctuation.
