Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover all five activities and identify several important patterns, especially the rise in table tennis and the sharp fall in amateur dramatics. The overview also notes that film club remained the largest activity and that musical performances began at zero. Most figures are broadly consistent with the graph, although film club reaches about 66 in 2020 rather than 68, and martial arts fluctuates between roughly 32 and 38 rather than remaining fully stable. The overview is somewhat incomplete: it would be clearer to highlight table tennis as the strongest growth and amateur dramatics as the steepest decline. Some trends, such as the changes in martial arts, are reported less fully than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the activities. Grouping film club, table tennis and martial arts before discussing amateur dramatics and musical performances gives the reader a generally coherent route through the data. However, the overview sentence beginning “Overall, it is clear that number…” is incomplete in its construction and does not clearly summarise all the main trends. Linking words such as “Moreover” and “However” are used, but some connections feel mechanical or do not express a strong contrast. Improve progression by making the overview a complete, concise summary, then grouping series by their trends and using clearer references to avoid repeating activity names.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of graph vocabulary, including “declined,” “increased,” “fluctuations,” and “participants,” so the main trends are usually understandable. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “declined drastically” and “significant rise.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “tracks the information on the numbers,” “had growth,” and “significantly tends to rise” do not sound natural in this context. Spelling errors such as “intial,” “partcipants,” “rised,” and “signifiacnt” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional reporting phrases and check spelling carefully; this will make your descriptions clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses linked with “and,” “then,” and “however,” and the overall meaning can generally be followed. However, some sentence structures are incomplete or awkwardly joined. For example, “Overall, it is clear that number of participants…” lacks a complete main clause, while “Table tennis initially had 16 participants had increased slightly…” combines two clauses without a suitable grammatical link. Articles and sentence punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “the year 2000” and the missing spaces after commas. Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and separate or correctly connect clauses. More accurate control of these patterns would make the range of structures more effective.
