Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover all five activities and identify the main patterns: film club remains the largest, amateur dramatics declines, and table tennis rises sharply. Several figures are also reported reasonably accurately, including amateur dramatics at 26 initially and 20 in 2010, and table tennis reaching about 55 by 2020. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: musical performances begin to rise in 2010, not 2005, and finish at about 18 rather than 15. The claim that table tennis was flat until 2010 overlooks its increase from about 16 to 20 by 2005. Your overview is relevant, but the final comparison could be more precise, particularly about table tennis overtaking martial arts by 2015 and becoming the second-largest activity by 2020.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a generally understandable sequence, moving through the activities and ending with an overall comparison. Grouping the trends into paragraphs also helps readers follow the information. However, progression is weakened by the lack of a clear, separate overview near the beginning and by some abrupt transitions, such as “Whereas” introducing a sentence fragment. The final paragraph repeats points already made about film club and table tennis rather than adding a concise synthesis. Linking expressions such as “By contrast” and “Meanwhile” could connect comparisons more smoothly, while grouping the two relatively stable activities together would make the organisation more purposeful. Some references, including “the only department,” are also unclear in this context.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “fluctuating,” “decreasing,” “remained flat,” and “increase … significantly.” These choices help communicate the main movements. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “kept score even,” “popular ending,” “devalued,” and “getting way more attention.” There are also spelling errors, including “participents,” “dranatics,” “arounf,” and “exponencially,” which reduce accuracy. Prefer standard chart language and use it consistently: for example, describe participant numbers as rising, falling, remaining stable, or fluctuating, rather than using expressions associated with popularity or value. This would make the account clearer and more appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “whereas” and “after that,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in sentence construction and verb forms are noticeable. For example, “Table tennis seems to had a popular ending” has an incorrect verb pattern, while “amateur dramatics has fallen” does not maintain the past-time framing of the chart. “Whereas, amateur dranatics…” is not a complete sentence, and “It started getting popularity” uses an incorrect grammatical construction. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly the lowercase “it” after the opening paragraph and the extra spaces around punctuation. Aim for complete sentences and consistent past-tense reporting, checking verb patterns and clause boundaries.
