Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important patterns, especially the strong rise in table-tennis participation and the decline in amateur dramatics, and you include figures that are broadly close to the chart. However, the report is only partly accurate and does not give a clear, complete overview of the main comparisons. For example, film-club participation was already high in 2000, but you begin its description in 2005; the chart shows about 64 participants in 2000 and 60 in 2010, rather than a decline of 5% from 2005. Martial arts fluctuated around the mid-30s, but its changes are not clearly reported. Also, the chart concerns participant numbers, not percentages, and the final overview repeats only two trends. Describe the units accurately and summarise the leading and changing series more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable sequence: an introduction, descriptions of several activities, and a brief concluding comparison. Grouping film club, martial arts and amateur dramatics before discussing table tennis and musical performances gives the reader some structure. However, progression is uneven because the final sentence repeats information already given rather than providing a broader overview, and some comparisons between series are missing. Linking expressions such as “However,” “Moreover,” and “Whilst” are used, but the relationships they signal are not always clear; for instance, “Whilst” introduces musical performances without a clear contrast. Organise the report into a clear overview followed by logically grouped details, and use linking words only when the connection between the ideas is precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant trend vocabulary, including “fluctuation,” “downward trend,” “dramatically increase,” and “remained steady,” so the reader can generally understand the changes being described. However, word choice and spelling are inconsistent, and several expressions are not natural for describing a graph. “Participants in musical instruments” misnames the activity, which is musical performances, while “a grow” and “touched only” are awkward choices. Repeated use of “about only” and “approximately” also limits variety. There are noticeable spelling errors, including “activites,” “patricipants,” and “Armature.” Aim for accurate activity labels and conventional collocations such as “the number of participants,” “rose sharply,” and “fell to,” while checking spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, using structures such as “After that” clauses and contrasts with “However” and “while.” The main trends are usually understandable, but errors recur in sentence construction and agreement. For example, “In 2005, number of participants … was” needs an article, and “participants in table tennis was” has a plural subject with a singular verb. The phrase “it showed a slightly decline” also has an incorrect adjective form, while “experienced the fluctuation throughout the period” is not formed naturally. Tense is mostly appropriate for past data, but some sentences are awkwardly joined or punctuated. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and adjective forms, then proofread each sentence for a complete, clear structure.
