Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and mention several relevant activities, including film club, table tennis, martial arts and amateur dramatics. You also recognise that table tennis rises and amateur dramatics falls, which are important features. However, the overview is unclear and sometimes inaccurate: participants did not start at very low levels across all activities, since film club began at about 64 and martial arts at 36. The response gives almost no specific figures or clear comparisons, and the claim that film club had more participants than every other activity at both the start and end overlooks table tennis’s strong rise, although film club remains highest in 2020. Select the main trends accurately and support them with key figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to an overview, details and a conclusion. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, there is little clear progression between the ideas, and several points are repeated rather than developed: the final paragraph largely restates that the numbers differ and that film club is high while amateur dramatics is low. Linking expressions such as “However,” and “Regarding” are used, but they do not consistently clarify the relationships between the activities. Some sentences combine several unclear points, making the comparisons difficult to follow. Grouping the rising activities together and the declining or fluctuating ones together would create a more logical account.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “activity,” “starting,” “ending,” and “number,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and key words are repeated frequently, especially “number of participants” and “very low/high.” Several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “all numbers are different,” “starting in above to thirty,” and “more then others,” which make the intended comparisons harder to understand. Aim for precise trend language and accurate collocations, for example “rose sharply,” “declined steadily,” “remained relatively stable,” and “stood at.” Check spelling and word forms, including “than” rather than “then,” and avoid using “number” where “figure” or “participation” would be more suitable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a few longer sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “while,” and use basic present-tense reporting. However, sentence structures are often faulty, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “all number of participants are started was very low” has problems with agreement, verb form and sentence construction; “martial arts are starting in above to thirty” also has an unclear grammatical pattern. Articles, plurals and prepositions are inconsistently controlled, and some sentences run several ideas together without effective punctuation. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with clauses such as “while” or “whereas.” Use consistent present-tense forms to describe the graph, such as “the figure rose” and “participation remained stable.”
