Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important features, including the film club’s consistently high participation, the rise in table tennis, and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, some figures and comparisons are inaccurate: film club stayed around 60–66, not 65–71, and table tennis rose to about 54 rather than 60. The overview also says the remaining hobbies were close to one another, which does not reflect the sharp fall in amateur dramatics or the substantial growth in table tennis. Musical performances began at zero and rose to about 18, broadly as you describe. To strengthen the report, give a clearer overview of the contrasting trends and report the main figures more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the activities. Phrases such as “Looking first at” and “Turning to” help signal shifts between groups of information. However, the progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several series and comparisons are packed into long sentences. For example, the sentence beginning “Looking first at film club” moves from film club to musical performances without a clear separation, while the final sentence combines martial arts, table tennis, and amateur dramatics. Organise the details into clearer comparisons, and use sentence boundaries and referencing more carefully so each trend is easy to track.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of task-related vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “increased dramatically,” and “stood,” which helps describe changes over time. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “the favourable activity,” “in the valley,” and “the amount of participants.” There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “Melbourn,” “intrested,” and “intersting.” These issues sometimes make the intended meaning harder to understand, particularly when describing the lowest figures or the activities’ popularity. Aim for precise, conventional chart language and check spelling; terms such as “most popular,” “reached a low of,” and “number of participants” would communicate the data more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “although” and “in comparison,” but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in sentence structure and verb forms: “The graph charts illustrates” has conflicting subject–verb forms, “a different pattern emerge” lacks agreement, and “amateur acting ha fell” contains an incorrect verb form. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “at social centre” and the long sentence beginning “Looking first at film club,” which joins several ideas unclearly. These errors can make parts of the report difficult to follow. Practise building accurate sentences around one main comparison, checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and past-tense forms.
