Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the main categories and make an attempt at an overview, noting the film club’s popularity and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is not accurate: “All of the activities had a upward trend” conflicts with the fluctuating martial-arts figures and the decline in amateur dramatics, while musical performances did not remain the least popular by 2020. Some figures are also misreported: the film club ends at about 66, not almost 70, and martial arts peaks around 38 in 2010 rather than almost 40. The response stops before completing the table-tennis comparison and omits the rise in musical performances. To improve, give a precise overview and report the key changes across all five activities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs describing individual activities. Basic linking phrases such as “Overall,” “As for” and “While” help signal relationships. However, progression is incomplete: the final sentence ends after “reaching about,” leaving the table-tennis point unfinished and the musical-performances trend unreported. The overview also groups trends inaccurately, which makes the organisation of the information less clear. Some transitions connect ideas without fully developing them, and the paragraphing does not provide a complete account of the graph. Organise the details into clear comparisons—for example, stable or fluctuating activities versus those with strong rises or falls—and ensure each point is completed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “downward trend,” “peak” and “significant rise,” so the reader can generally identify the intended trends. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors are noticeable, including “Melbournr,” “attented,” “flim,” “amature” and “flacuated.” Some word combinations are also imprecise: “majority of them liked” describes preference rather than the number of participants, and “had it lowest” is not a natural way to describe a minimum. Use accurate chart language such as “participant numbers,” “remained the most popular,” and “fell to a low of.” Careful proofreading and more precise trend vocabulary would make the report clearer and more appropriate to an academic summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more developed sentences, including a contrast with “While table tennis…,” and the overall meaning is often recoverable. However, errors occur frequently in basic sentence construction and agreement. For example, “The line graph illustrate” needs a singular verb, and “has attented” does not fit the past-time period; “Musical performances was” also has incorrect agreement. Articles and verb forms are inconsistent in phrases such as “a upward trend” and “then it raise again.” Punctuation is also weak, with no space after the full stop in “people.While.” These recurring problems sometimes make the reader pause. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and subject–verb agreement, then proofread each sentence for articles and punctuation.
