Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main categories and several important patterns: film club remains the most popular, table tennis rises substantially, amateur dramatics declines, and musical performances begin at zero before increasing. These observations are relevant and broadly match the graph. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: martial arts fluctuates rather than remaining “significantly stable,” and amateur dramatics falls to about 6 participants by 2020, not 8. The overview also says people were “not interested” in musical performances initially, which overstates what a zero figure can show. To strengthen the report, give a clearer overview of the contrasting trends and compare the ending figures, especially the sharp rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to general observations and then to figures and trends. Paragraphing helps separate some of the information, and words such as “Whereas,” “However,” and “Then” show attempts to connect ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear: the overview is repeated at the end, and the discussion shifts between years and activities without a systematic order. Some links are awkward or unclear, such as “Then after every five years,” which does not specify the trend precisely. Organise the body by contrasting trends—for example, rising activities versus declining or stable ones—and use clear references to the relevant years. This would make comparisons easier to follow and reduce repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “participants,” “categories,” “increased,” and “decreased,” so the reader can generally understand the subject and broad trends. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, particularly “participants participated” and “number of participants.” Some word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “Most number,” “stable to five years,” and “favourite category.” There are also spelling errors, including “throught,” “slightely,” and “fllm,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for concise, natural reporting language and vary verbs appropriately: describe figures as rising, falling, fluctuating, or remaining broadly stable. Use “the highest figure” rather than “Most number,” and avoid interpreting participation as preference unless the graph supports that claim.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with contrast, but complex constructions are often faulty, and grammatical errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. For example, “there were number of participants participated” has problems with articles and clause structure, while “Members participated remains slightely increased or decreased” has incorrect verb forms and agreement. Tense and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “There were musical performance participants increased to reached.” Practise building accurate basic patterns first: “The number of participants in the film club was 65,” and “Table tennis rose from 20 in 2010 to 54 in 2020.” Then add contrast clauses only when the underlying sentence is complete.
