Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main overall patterns: the film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises, amateur dramatics declines, and martial arts fluctuates around a similar level. These are relevant features and give the response a basic overview. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear. Film club falls only slightly before recovering, rather than simply decreasing, and its final figure is about 66, not 67. Table tennis does not remain constant throughout: it rises from about 20 in 2005–2010 to 54 by 2020. Musical performances increase gradually after 2005, rather than significantly. The report covers all five activities, but limited precision and incomplete comparison mean the key information is only partly developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, and further paragraphs describing the activities. Grouping the main trends in the overview is helpful. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is often mechanical: repeated sequences such as “and then it decreased and then it increased” make the account difficult to follow and obscure the size and timing of changes. The final paragraph also combines two activities without clearly comparing their trends. Use time markers and contrastive links more selectively—for example, distinguish the early stability of table tennis from its sharp later rise, then contrast this with the gradual growth in musical performances. This would make the organisation clearer and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “upward trend,” “downward trend,” and “almost constant,” so the reader can generally understand the subject and direction of change. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are awkward, such as “reached at 67 number of participants” and “represented the downward trend.” Repeated use of “number of participants” and “then” also makes the description less precise. There are noticeable spelling errors, including “higgest,” “clud,” “teenis,” and “reprents,” which reduce accuracy and polish. Aim for concise reporting verbs and accurate trend vocabulary, while checking spelling carefully. This will make the account more natural and easier to interpret.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences communicate a basic trend, and you attempt to connect events in time using clauses such as “and then it decreased and then it increased.” However, the sentence patterns are limited and these extended chains are often poorly controlled. Errors in grammatical forms and sentence construction include “it fall continuously,” “it rise,” and “it reached at 5 number of participants.” Articles and noun phrases are also sometimes awkward, as in “had the almost constant number.” These problems recur and can make the reader pause, even though the general meaning is usually recoverable. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build shorter, varied sentences, using structures such as “After falling slightly, the figure recovered” to express changes clearly.
