Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response makes a limited attempt to describe the graph, with an overview that identifies a decline in amateur dramatics. However, the claim that participation increased in every activity except one is inaccurate: film club stayed broadly stable, while martial arts fluctuated and musical performances rose from zero. The statement that film-club participation “remained same” also misses its small dip and later rise. The final sentence, “In 2010, People were intersted on flim around”, is unfinished and provides no usable figure or comparison. Most of the graph is therefore not reported. The response is also 86 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to select and explain the main features. Include a complete overview and key figures for the contrasting trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt at organisation: an opening sentence is followed by an overview, and “Overall” and “In contrast” signal relationships between ideas. These features give the response some structure. However, the progression stops abruptly after the incomplete final sentence, so the reader receives no detailed account of the activities or comparisons across the period. The overview also groups the trends inaccurately, which weakens the connection between the ideas. Paragraphing is present but does not support a complete report. Develop a separate body paragraph or paragraphs that move through the main trends, using clear links such as “while” or “by comparison” to distinguish rising, falling and stable series.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “line graph”, “participants”, “activities” and “period”, and attempts to describe trends with “increasing” and “decreased”. This gives it a minimally adequate basis for the topic. However, several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to interpret, such as “numerous number”, “deamatic”, “decresed” and “intersted”. Some combinations are also unnatural, including “people who involved in film club” and “interested on film”. Use precise chart language and check spelling carefully: for example, “the number of participants”, “participation declined” and “people were interested in the film club”. A wider range of accurate trend verbs would help describe the data more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few sentence forms, including an overview with a contrast: “In contrast, amateur deamatic was decresed in end of period.” However, control is inconsistent. In “who participants in various activities”, the verb pattern is incomplete; “people who involved” is missing an auxiliary; and “remained same” lacks an article. The final sentence, “In 2010, People were intersted on flim around”, is unfinished, so its intended grammatical structure cannot be followed. Sentence structures are mostly simple, with little accurate variety. Practise complete subject–verb clauses and past-tense reporting, for example, “The number of participants in amateur dramatics fell by 2020.” Check articles and verb forms, and ensure every sentence is complete.
