Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main contrast that film club participation was highest and amateur dramatics declined, and you include several relevant figures, such as film club at about 65 and table tennis reaching roughly 55 by 2020. However, the overview is not consistently accurate: musical performances were not the lowest throughout the period, since they rose from zero to around 18, while amateur dramatics ended lower, at about 6. The claim that martial arts and amateur dramatics were roughly equal is also misleading across the period. Some trends are reported imprecisely, including table tennis, which rose sharply after 2010 rather than simply reaching 20 and then 30. Select the clearest overall trends and compare them accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs describing the activities. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within the body is uneven: several series are combined in long sentences, making comparisons difficult to follow. Connectors such as “However,” and “while” are repeated or used where the relationship between ideas is unclear, as in the sentence about film club and musical performances. Paragraphing could also group the main rising trends separately from the declining or fluctuating ones. Use shorter, clearly focused sentences and link each comparison directly to the relevant years or figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of vocabulary related to trends, including “sharply increased,” “dramatically decline,” and “ups and downs,” so the response is not limited to basic labels. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a graph: “amount of members,” “attendees … considered as lowest,” and “rose up to 15%” do not express the data clearly. The repeated use of “members” and “attendees” also obscures that the chart reports participant numbers, not percentages. Spelling and word-form errors, including “begining,” “introducted,” and “memebrs,” further reduce precision. Prefer standard collocations such as “the number of participants,” “rose to,” and “fell to,” and use the chart’s units consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, but control is inconsistent, especially when several trends are joined together. Errors in sentence structure and agreement appear in phrases such as “Film club participants at peak level” and “members of table tennis sharply increased,” where the intended subject and verb relationship is unclear. Articles, plurals and verb forms are also unreliable, as in “different type of events” and “it roses.” Punctuation and spacing around commas are inconsistent, which makes some sentences harder to read. Build accurate simple comparisons first, then add subordinate clauses; check that each sentence has a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
