Student answer (Band 5.0)

The line graph provides us information about the numbers of people involved in various activities at public center in Melbourne and Australia from 2000 to 2020.

Overall, there is huge numbers of participants in film club and remain the same between 2000 and 2020. While table tennis also show a hugwe progress from 2010 to 2020. Armateur dramatics participants decreased after 2005. martial arts show intermediate results and have same but musical performances did not show any interest throughout the years.

The film club activities attracted most of the people and there are around sixty five participants and remain the same from 2000 to 2020. While the martial arts have also being well but at 2010 it show slight increases and then the same as before 2010. the shocking thing is that around 2000 to 2010 table taniss students are 25 but between 2010 to 2020 it has a great increase with participants around 55 people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several important patterns: the film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises substantially, and amateur dramatics declines. However, the overview is not fully accurate: musical performances did not remain without interest throughout, since participation rose from zero to about 18, and the film-club figure changes slightly rather than staying exactly the same. The report also ends with an unfinished point (“On the other hand, the arm”), leaving the decline in amateur dramatics without a complete account. Some figures are misreported, particularly table tennis, which was about 16–20 through 2010, not 25. To strengthen the response, give a complete overview and accurately compare the main changes across all five activities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and detail paragraphs, and expressions such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is difficult to follow because several trends are crowded into the overview, then repeated or described again in the body. The final paragraph is incomplete, ending with “the arm,” so the discussion has no clear conclusion. Some linking is also awkward: “While” begins a sentence fragment, and “On the other hand” does not clearly introduce a contrast with the preceding information. Use one paragraph for the overview and separate, logically grouped details, with complete sentences and links that accurately show comparison or contrast.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “decreased,” “slight increases” and “great increase,” so the reader can recognise the general trends. However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings reduce clarity, such as “hugwe progress,” “Armateur dramatics,” and “table taniss.” Phrases including “show intermediate results,” “did not show any interest,” and “the shocking thing” are imprecise or too informal for an academic report. Prefer neutral, specific language such as “fluctuated,” “recorded no participants initially,” and “the most notable change.” Check spelling of activity names and use consistent terms for the people counted, such as “participants,” rather than switching to “students.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including contrasts introduced with “While,” but control is inconsistent and errors sometimes make relationships unclear. Examples include “there is huge numbers,” where the verb does not agree with the plural subject, and “the martial arts have also being well,” which has an incorrect verb form and an unclear construction. Several sentences lack a complete grammatical structure, such as “While table tennis also show a hugwe progress,” and punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, as in “martial arts” after a full stop. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles and tense. For example: “Table tennis participation rose sharply from 2010 to 2020.”
