Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the five activities and give a broad overview, noting that the film club remained the most popular and that table tennis rose substantially. However, several trends are inaccurately described or unclear. Amateur dramatics did not increase before dropping slightly overall: it edged up from about 26 to 28 by 2005, then fell steadily to around 6. Musical performances began in 2010, not 2005, and rose gradually to about 18 rather than climbing steeply and then remaining stable. The film club peaked at roughly 66, not 70. To make the report more complete and accurate, select the main changes and compare their start and end points clearly, while checking each trend against the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs of details. It also attempts to connect information with phrases such as “Similarly,” “In contrast” and “Meanwhile.” However, progression is weakened by unclear or contradictory links, including “From 2020 to 2005,” which reverses the time order, and “Overall… where… whereas… while,” which makes the overview difficult to follow. Some transitions do not clearly show the relationship between the data, and the final paragraph combines several series without a consistent sequence. Organise the details by clear groups—for example, declining versus rising activities—and describe each series chronologically. Use fewer linking words, ensuring each one accurately signals contrast, similarity or sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “decline,” “fluctuation” and “climbed,” and you attempt to vary how trends are described. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the data hard to interpret. For example, “Amateur show increase” is unclear, “incline” is not the natural verb for the trend, and “rapidly grow” would be better expressed as “grew rapidly.” “70 numbers” and “14 portion” are also unsuitable ways to report participant totals. Use precise, conventional expressions such as “the figure rose to,” “fell steadily,” and “the number of participants.” Check word forms and collocations so that varied vocabulary remains accurate and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to form longer sentences and use contrast clauses, but control is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include “film club were,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and “Martial art start,” which needs a past-tense verb. The sentence beginning “After slight decline in 2010” also has an article omission and an unclear continuation. Capitalisation after commas is inconsistent, and several sentence fragments or poorly joined clauses appear in the overview. Practise writing complete sentences with one clear subject and verb, then check past-tense consistency, agreement, articles and punctuation. A reliable pattern such as “The figure fell from X to Y before rising to Z” would help you report changes accurately.
