Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main categories and attempt an overview, noting that the film club has the most participants and musical performances the fewest. However, the overview is unclear and contains a major factual error: amateur dramatics did not steadily increase; after a small rise to 28 in 2005, it fell to about 6 by 2020. Some details are also inaccurate or vague: there were no participants in musical performances in 2000 and 2005, not “no participants in 2005” overall, and table tennis rose sharply rather than gradually. The response is 134 words, below the 150-word minimum, and several important comparisons and figures are omitted. Report the key trends accurately and support them with selected data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and two body paragraphs, and sequencing words such as “Overall,” “Firstly” and “Secondly” help signal stages. However, progression within the body paragraphs is difficult to follow because several activities and trends are compressed into long, unclear statements. For example, “Amateur dramatics increased in 2005 which were 30 and drastically decreased and table tennis gradually increased and suddenly increased” combines separate series without clear relationships. The overview also contradicts itself about amateur dramatics. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, one paragraph for the film club and martial arts, and another for the declining and rising activities—and use linking phrases to show contrast and change precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “increased,” “decreased” and “drastically,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spelling errors make the report less clear, such as “numbers pf people's,” “extra things,” “film culb,” “table tenis” and “involver.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “accounted least among them” and “rosed in 2015 to 2020” do not describe the data clearly. Use accurate activity names and collocations such as “the number of participants,” “remained relatively stable” and “rose sharply.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise trend language would make the account easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few longer sentences and uses basic time references, but sentence structures are limited and errors occur frequently enough to make some statements difficult to interpret. Examples include “film culb are the largest number,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “65 no. of participants of film culb rapidly increased,” which lacks a clear grammatical structure. The phrase “increased decreased over the time” also needs a clearer verb pattern, while “which were 30” has an unclear reference. Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, agreement and tense. For instance, “The film club had the highest participation, at about 64 people in 2000” is a clearer model.
