Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graph illustrates the information on the numbers of people done different activites at on social centre in Melbourne the city in Australia from 2000 to 2020 period, two decades.
We have seen the great growth of table tennis during that period, while the film club, martial arts and musical performances had the steady growth and downfall of amateur dramatics.
During 2000 to 2010, all the activites except the film club has the same steady growth. After 2010 the table tennis got the drastically improvement in number from 20 participants to 50 pulse, where we find the steady growth of film club, martial arts and musical performances.
We have found the downfall of amateur dramatics during that tenure, from 2000 to 2005 we have the growth but after that the number gone down rapidly, the numbers were 29 to 30 on 2005 and on reaching 2020 we have found only 10.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several important features, especially the strong rise in table-tennis participation and the decline in amateur dramatics, and you attempt an overall summary. However, the overview is not fully accurate: film-club numbers dip slightly before rising, martial arts fluctuates rather than growing steadily, and musical performances begin at zero before increasing. Some figures are also imprecise: amateur dramatics falls from about 28 in 2005 to 6 in 2020, not 29–30 to 10, while table tennis reaches about 54 rather than simply “50 pulse.” The account is therefore only partly complete, with limited and sometimes unclear support. Report the main trends accurately and compare the final figures to make the summary more informative.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic progression: an introduction, a general overview, and then details about the trends. Time markers such as “During 2000 to 2010” and “After 2010” help the reader follow the chronology. However, the organisation is not consistently clear because several activities are grouped together even when their patterns differ, and the final paragraph repeats the decline already mentioned in the overview. Some linking phrases are awkward or unclear, including “where we find” and “from 2000 to 2005 we have the growth.” Use separate, focused comparisons—for example, group the rising table-tennis and musical-performance figures, then contrast them with the declining amateur dramatics—and make each paragraph’s purpose clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “growth,” “downfall,” and “rapidly,” and the reader can generally identify the activities being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report difficult to interpret. Examples include “people done different activities,” “the drastically improvement,” and “50 pulse”; these do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also spelling errors such as “activites.” Aim for precise trend language and standard collocations, such as “the number of participants increased sharply” or “participation declined.” Check spelling and choose words that describe the data rather than relying repeatedly on “growth” and “downfall.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, using time clauses and contrast, as in “After 2010 the table tennis…” and “while the film club…”. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “all the activities except the film club has” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the number gone down rapidly” lacks the required auxiliary or past-tense form. Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “at on social centre.” Practise forming accurate past-tense descriptions and checking agreement, articles, and complete verb phrases. Shorter, well-controlled sentences would make the comparisons clearer.
