Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the five activities and note several important patterns, including the film club’s consistently high participation, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the sharp rise in table tennis after 2010. However, the overview is vague (“significant decline and upward trend”) and some details are inaccurate: martial arts fluctuates rather than showing a continuous decline, and musical performances reach about 18 participants in 2020, not almost 25. The film club is described as constant, although it falls slightly before rising again. To strengthen the report, give a clear overview of the main contrasts and support it with accurate figures at key points, especially the major growth in table tennis and the fall in amateur dramatics.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response follows a broadly sensible order: it introduces the chart, names the activities, and then describes several series. Comparisons such as “Whereas” also show an attempt to connect information. However, the organisation is limited because there is no distinct, clear overview, and the second paragraph repeats general statements rather than establishing a progression through the main trends. Several ideas are crowded into long sentences, particularly the sentence beginning “The film club has the most participate,” which moves from film club to martial arts and amateur dramatics. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and detailed comparisons, and group related trends together. More precise linking and reference would make the relationships between the activities easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “decline,” “upward trend,” “slight,” and “dramatically,” and the activity names make the subject clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. Phrases such as “most participate,” “constant rate,” and “take interest in the musical performance” do not express the data naturally; “participants” and “participation” are also confused. There are noticeable spelling errors, including “Melbrone,” “activites,” “dramtically,” and “paarticipant.” Aim for precise terms such as “participant numbers,” “remained relatively stable,” “fluctuated,” and “rose sharply,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use contrast clauses, for example, “Whereas, Amateur dramatics has less participant…” However, the response relies mainly on simple or loosely joined structures, and errors are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. Examples include “The number of participants are involved,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “The film club has the most participate and constant rate,” which lacks a clear grammatical structure. Commas and capitalisation are also inconsistent, including the comma splice after “2020” and the capitalised activity names within sentences. Practise forming complete sentences with accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation, then use a few controlled complex sentences to compare trends.
