Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s five activities and give a basic overview: film club has the highest participation, amateur dramatics declines, and table tennis changes markedly. However, the report covers only part of the main information. The table-tennis rise from about 16 to 54 and the introduction and growth of musical performances are not described, while the amateur-dramatics fall is mentioned only generally. Some figures are also inaccurate: martial arts fluctuates around the mid-30s rather than reaching 40, and film-club participation is about 66 in 2020, not 60. The response is also below the required 150 words. To improve, report the major trends across all five activities and support the overview with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and a paragraph of figures, so the reader can identify the intended stages. However, progression is limited: the final paragraph moves between film club and martial arts without a clear chronological or comparative plan, and important series are omitted. Linking is also repetitive and sometimes unclear, as in “After 10 years” and “while martial arts people remain same.” The overview’s separate statements are not connected into a clear summary of the main contrasts. Organise the details into logical groups—for example, stable or fluctuating activities versus those with strong rises or falls—and use precise time references and comparisons to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “participants,” “decreased,” and “increased,” and the activity names make the subject clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, including “people less intrest,” “candidates,” and “participants intrested in film club.” Spelling errors such as “melbourne,” “intrest,” “favourit,” and “drametic” are noticeable and reduce precision. “Drametic change” is also vague when describing table tennis. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “the number of participants,” “participation fell,” and “rose sharply,” and check spelling and capitalization. This would make the report more precise without requiring unnecessarily advanced vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences, including “After 10 years film club candidates slightly decreased, while martial arts people remain same,” but the response relies mainly on simple sentence patterns and errors are frequent. Articles and sentence structure are often missing or faulty: “in activity of martial arts participants became decreased” needs a clearer subject and verb construction. Tense and agreement are inconsistent, as in “martial arts people remain same,” and punctuation and capitalization are not controlled consistently, including the lowercase sentence beginnings “also” and “in.” These problems sometimes make relationships between the figures difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build sentences around clear subjects, for example, “Martial-arts participation fluctuated around the mid-30s.”
