Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main categories and report several important patterns: film-club attendance stays high, amateur dramatics declines, and table tennis rises sharply. These are relevant features, and the approximate figures for amateur dramatics and table tennis broadly match the chart. However, the overview contains a key error: table tennis is not the least popular activity overall; it rises to second place by 2020, while musical performances begin at zero. The claim that film-club numbers remained “almost same” also misses the small dip followed by a rise, and the musical-performance trend is only partly described. To strengthen the response, give a more accurate overview of the contrasting trends and compare the final figures, while developing the film club and martial arts descriptions more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details about the activities. This helps the reader follow the general subject. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and several links are awkward or incomplete. For example, “Where, musical performance rose in later years” does not connect clearly to the preceding sentence, while “Whereas” begins a fragment in the final paragraph. The overview also groups trends without a clear comparison, and the final sentence combines several series, making the information harder to track. Use complete sentences and organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, stable activities together, then the contrasting rise and decline.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “decline,” “sharply,” and “participants,” which allows you to describe changes rather than simply list figures. However, word choice and spelling are often inaccurate or imprecise, such as “little peaked,” “boomed,” “marital art,” and “amature dramatic.” Some activity names are also used inconsistently, including “musical performance” and “musical performances.” These errors sometimes make the intended trend or category less clear. Aim for accurate, conventional chart language and check the spelling of labels taken directly from the graph. More precise verbs such as “increased,” “fell,” and “remained stable” would also make the comparisons clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the response communicates the broad direction of several trends. However, errors in sentence construction, agreement, tense, and punctuation are frequent enough to make some statements difficult to follow. For example, “The participants for amature dramatic was the only to be see a decline” has problems with agreement and verb form, while “Whereas the participants…” is an incomplete sentence. The opening also uses an incorrect time construction (“between 2000 to 2020”), and several sentences run together without clear punctuation. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past-tense forms consistently when describing the period shown.
