Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the five activities and include several relevant trends, especially the sharp rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is unclear and inaccurate: “fit club” is not a chart category, and the film club did not remain steady at 65 throughout; it dipped slightly before rising to about 66. Some key comparisons are also misreported. Martial arts fluctuated around the mid-30s rather than showing a general increase and then remaining at 38, while table tennis reached about 54, not above 60. Musical performances began increasing in 2010, not 2005. To strengthen the response, give a clear overview of the main contrasts and check each trend and endpoint against the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a generally understandable order, moving through the activities one by one, and time markers such as “in 2000,” “from 2010 to 2015,” and “in 2020” help locate changes. However, there is no clear paragraphing beyond the opening and overview, and the main features are presented as a long sequence rather than grouped or prioritised. Several links are awkward or unclear, as in “from 2005 to 2020 there was rapid downfall,” and repeated use of “starts,” “then,” and “its number” makes the progression mechanical. Organise the body into paragraphs that compare related trends, and use clearer linking and reference so readers can follow the changes without rereading.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “participants,” “stable,” “upward trend,” “rapid downfall,” and “approximately.” These choices make the general subject and direction of change understandable. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, however: “fit club” does not match the chart’s “film club,” “share in participation” is unnatural, and “cross the figure of 60” overstates the table-tennis value. “Downfall” is also less suitable for describing a numerical decline. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, such as “the number of participants,” “rose to,” “fell to,” and “fluctuated around.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences with time clauses and contrasts, for example, “from 2010 to 2015 there was minor change in number,” showing some effort to describe sequences rather than relying only on short statements. However, errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “how many participants involve,” “the number participants,” and “Film club accounted … starts,” where verb forms and sentence construction are faulty. Articles and plurals are also often missing, as in “there was minor change” and “below 10.” Several sentences run together without clear punctuation. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build shorter, complete sentences before combining them with clauses.
