Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant activities and report broad patterns, especially the rise in table tennis and the gradual increase in musical performances. However, the response only partially summarises the graph: there is no clear overview of the main contrasts, and amateur dramatics—one of the most striking trends, falling from about 26 to 6—is omitted. Some figures are inaccurate or imprecise: film-club participation is around 60–66 people, not 65–70 percent, and musical performances rise to about 18 by 2020 rather than remaining at 15. The graph shows numbers of participants, not percentages. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview and select accurate comparisons across the period, including the decline in amateur dramatics and the sharp growth in table tennis.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows a basic sequence, moving from an introduction to comments on several activities, and phrases such as “first of all” and “then” help signal the order. However, the ideas are presented in one long, crowded paragraph after the opening, so the reader has difficulty distinguishing the overview from the detailed comparisons. Linking is repetitive and sometimes unclear, particularly in “then in saw a table tennis” and the repeated “we have to look at.” Organise the answer into a clear introduction, an overview, and one or two detail paragraphs. Use links that show meaningful contrasts or changes, such as “by contrast,” “while,” and “over the same period,” rather than relying mainly on sequencing words.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “participants,” “increse,” and “year by year,” and the activity names are generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise: “people who participate” is used repeatedly, while “low percentage” and “most of the people increse” do not describe the data naturally. The response also confuses the unit by repeatedly saying “percent” when the graph reports participant numbers. Spelling errors such as “socical,” “muscical,” and “increse” are noticeable. Build a small set of accurate chart phrases, such as “the figure stood at,” “rose sharply,” and “declined steadily,” and use “participants” rather than “people” or percentages.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example when describing the changes in musical performances, and the general meaning is usually recoverable. However, sentence structures are limited and several long sentences lack clear grammatical boundaries or punctuation. There are recurring errors in articles, agreement, and verb forms, as in “the are 35 to 40 percent people” and “there were 10 percent people participate.” The opening also has an incomplete construction: “for time period 2000 to 2020.” Use complete, controlled sentences with a subject and verb, and practise patterns such as “There were about 36 participants” and “The figure increased to 18 by 2020.” Full stops and commas would also make the comparisons easier to follow.
