Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important patterns, including the decline in amateur dramatics, the strong rise in table tennis, and the gradual growth of musical performances. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear: film-club participation did not increase constantly, but dipped slightly before rising, and martial arts fluctuated rather than remaining constant. The figures of 70 and 40 also overstate the approximate levels, which were about 60–66 and 32–38 respectively. Your overview mentions the main trends, but the account of film club and martial arts weakens its accuracy, while the comparison between activities could be more precise. Report the overall ranking and the major changes using figures that match the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph with further details. This helps the reader identify the activities being discussed. However, progression is uneven because the final paragraph moves between series without a clear grouping or consistent comparison. Linking words such as “While” and “Now” do not always establish the relationship between the sentences, and “which” has unclear references in phrases such as “which were from 30 to 5.” Repeated use of “The number of participants” also makes the account feel list-like. Grouping the two rising activities together, then contrasting them with the declining and fluctuating series, would create a clearer progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “increased,” “fell drastically,” and “gradually,” so the reader can generally understand the trends you intend to describe. However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate: “rose in the last years” and “started rosing” are not natural ways to describe a trend, while “the proportion of participants” is unsuitable when the graph gives numbers. There are also spelling errors, including “Ovetall,” “tannis,” and “previoua.” Use precise trend language such as “fluctuated,” “declined steadily,” and “rose sharply,” and check spelling and collocations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to combine ideas using clauses and contrast markers, but the range of sentence structures is limited and errors recur in basic sentence patterns. For example, “the number of participants on film club were increased” has problems with the preposition, subject–verb agreement, and verb form; “which were remained constant” is also incorrectly formed. Agreement errors appear again in “The proportion … were lowest.” Some sentences are difficult to follow because clauses are joined or punctuated awkwardly, as in “While the amateur dramatics started falling from 2005 to 2020.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and subject–verb agreement, and make sure each sentence has a complete main clause.
