Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important patterns: the film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises sharply after 2010, and amateur dramatics declines. The overview also notes that martial arts fluctuates and musical performances begin at zero. However, the report is incomplete: it ends mid-sentence just as the table-tennis trend is being described, and the steep fall in amateur dramatics is not supported with figures or a clear endpoint. Some figures are also imprecise, such as film-club participation reaching “nearly 70” rather than about 66. To strengthen coverage, finish the comparison and report the main changes accurately, especially the table-tennis rise to about 54 and amateur dramatics’ fall to about 6.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details, and the activities are generally grouped in a sensible way. However, progression becomes difficult to follow because several sentences begin with “While” or “Whereas” without completing a clear contrast, and the final paragraph stops mid-sentence. The overview also strings together trends rather than organising them into a clear comparison of rising, falling and relatively stable activities. Use complete sentences, group related series together, and connect each paragraph’s details to the overview. A finished final paragraph would make the report feel more coherent and complete.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant trend vocabulary, including “dominating,” “fluctuating,” “sharp increase” and “gradually,” which helps communicate the main movements. However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings reduce precision, including “dominating category” for the activity with the most participants and “sharp boost” for a rise in numbers. There are also repeated spelling errors such as “particpants,” “flactuating” and “gradually” misspelled, alongside “Melbrourne.” These errors do not make the overall topic impossible to understand, but they make the report less clear and polished. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some complex sentence patterns, particularly with “While” and “Whereas,” but these are often not formed as complete, well-controlled sentences. For example, “While musical performances was at lowest…” is a dependent clause, and “Whereas table tennis shows…” is also left without a main clause. There are frequent problems with articles, agreement and verb forms, as in “illustrates number,” “performances was,” and “its remain on top.” Sentence boundaries and capitalisation are also inconsistent. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise writing complete simple sentences first, then combine them with accurate contrast clauses and consistent past-tense reporting.
