Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify two important overall patterns: table tennis rises sharply, while amateur dramatics declines, and you correctly note that the film club remains the most popular activity. These points provide a relevant overview. However, the account is only partly developed: the decline in amateur dramatics is not supported with figures, and the claim that table tennis was the least popular only until 2010 overlooks that musical performances had no participants in 2000 and 2005. The final figure for table tennis is given as “55%,” although the chart shows approximately 54 participants, not a percentage. Include clearer comparisons and accurate figures for the main changes, including the film club’s relative stability and martial arts’ fluctuations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about individual activities. Paragraphing helps distinguish the general trends from the supporting information, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Moving on” signal transitions. However, the progression between details is sometimes unclear: the discussion shifts from table tennis to musical performances and then martial arts without consistently comparing their figures or linking the points. Some linking expressions, including “Nevertheless,” do not clearly show the relationship between the information that follows. Organise the body around the main trends—for example, rising activities versus declining or fluctuating ones—and use precise references so readers can follow which activity and year each statement concerns.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “dramatic increase,” “sharp increase,” “fluctuation,” and “rapidly decline.” This gives you a basic range for reporting the graph. However, several choices are inaccurate or awkward for this task: “55%” treats a participant count as a percentage, “individual” is repeated where “participants” is more suitable, and “nill” is an incorrect spelling. Phrases such as “the different number of participants in the different activities” are also repetitive. Aim for precise chart language and vary trend descriptions appropriately, such as “rose substantially,” “fell steadily,” or “remained relatively stable.” Check spelling and collocations before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including the contrast in “Overall, it can be seen that…” and the time clause “Moving on from year 2000 to 2005…”. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “Amateur dramatics participants has rapidly decline” has problems with agreement and verb form, while “the number of participants reach” needs a past-tense verb. The sentence beginning “The least number of individual is who plays table tennis” is also structurally unclear. Practise forming accurate comparisons and trend sentences, paying particular attention to subject–verb agreement, past-tense forms, articles, and sentence boundaries.
