Student answer (Band 5.0)

given data represents the numerical value of participation of different activities at the social center located in Melbourne, of Australian continent of time period of roughly 20 years starting from 2000.

Overall, the chart consists of art and sports events being held at the social center. throughout the years people's interest has significantly increased in table tennis and sort of crashed in amateur dramatics. reason might be the rise of social media consumption. musical performances are also attracting genourase amount of people. Others seen to be quite consistent.

music rather being a large part of film making on it self it's not able to attract significant crowd. film club is consistently above 60s where as music touching the peak at 20s. martial arts is rather consistent with it's profile existing between 30-40. and table tennis gaining it's popularity as years pass by.

We can't judge the over all trends using this data but we sure get a good idea from it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important patterns: film-club participation remains high, table tennis rises markedly, and amateur dramatics declines. These observations are broadly supported by the chart. However, the report is only partly developed: it gives few precise figures, omits the key comparison that table tennis reaches 54 by 2020 while amateur dramatics falls to 6, and describes musical performances as reaching “20s” rather than about 18. The claim that the data cannot show overall trends is also unhelpful, since summarising those trends is the task. The speculation about social media is not supported by the graph. Select the main changes, give accurate approximate values, and keep the overview focused on what the data demonstrates.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: an opening statement is followed by an overview and then further comparisons. The reader can identify the main subjects, especially table tennis and amateur dramatics. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph introduces a broad conclusion that conflicts with the overview, and several ideas are placed together without clear links. For example, the sentence about music and film-making shifts abruptly into figures for the film club, while “Others seen to be quite consistent” does not specify which activities. Use a clear sequence—introduction, overview, then grouped details—and connect comparisons explicitly. Clearer referencing and more purposeful paragraph development would make the report easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “participation,” “consistent,” “profile,” and “gaining its popularity,” so the general subject is understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or informal for an academic chart report. “Sort of crashed” is an imprecise way to describe a decline, “genourase amount” is misspelled and unnatural, and “music touching the peak at 20s” does not clearly express the figure. Phrases such as “art and sports events” also misclassify the activities. Aim for precise trend language and standard collocations, such as “fell steadily,” “rose sharply,” and “the number of participants.” Check spelling and avoid conversational expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “given data represents,” which needs an article, and “film club is consistently above 60s,” where the plural form and sentence construction are faulty. In “martial arts is rather consistent with it's profile existing between 30-40,” the possessive is confused with “it’s,” and the structure is awkward. Capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent, as in “throughout the years.” Build accurate basic sentences first, using patterns such as “The number of participants in the film club remained above 60.” Then add complex clauses only when their grammar is secure.
