Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify several important patterns: film club participation stays high, table tennis rises sharply after 2010, and amateur dramatics declines. The comparison in your conclusion that film club and table tennis have the largest numbers by 2020 is also supported by the graph. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear. Musical performances began in 2010, not 2005, and film club participation fluctuated slightly rather than simply remaining “in trend.” The overview would be stronger if it clearly contrasted the main changes across all activities, including martial arts’ relative stability and the steep fall in amateur dramatics. Some figures, such as table tennis rising from about 15 to over 50, are broadly accurate but could be reported more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph describing trends, and a concluding comparison. This gives the reader a general route through the information. However, the progression within the overview and body is sometimes difficult to follow because several trends are packed into long sentences, with limited separation between ideas. Connectors such as “Furthermore,” “On the other hand,” and “Moreover” help signal relationships, but their use is occasionally mechanical or unclear. For example, the sentence beginning “Futhermore, the table tannis…” moves through three activities without clear boundaries. Use separate sentences or paragraphs for contrasting trends, and make references such as “it” or “the graph” more specific.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant trend vocabulary, including “sharp incline,” “sharp decline,” “stability,” and “fluctuation,” which helps describe changes in the graph. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, making parts of the report less natural. Phrases such as “remain in trend,” “does not gain much participants,” and “members started to show less interest” are not well suited to describing chart data. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “flim,” “decads,” “tannis,” and “intrest.” Aim for precise, conventional language for figures and trends, such as “remained relatively stable,” “the number of participants increased,” and “participation declined.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses linked with “however,” “as,” and “after,” and the main trends are generally understandable. Some grammatical errors nevertheless affect clarity and control. For example, “participants that takes part” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the musical performances were started” uses an incorrect passive construction. In “it does not gain much participants stay between 10 to 20,” the sentence structure and tense are difficult to follow. Articles, plurals, and punctuation also need attention, as in “one social center at Melbourne and Australia.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and divide long sentences into shorter, complete statements.
