Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given line graph below illustrates information regarding the number of participants who take part in a variety of activities, like film club and table tennis, over two decades from 2000 to 2020.
Firstly, the film club activity had a relatively stable number of people who took part in it, the proportion is between 64 to 68, which is the highest category among all the other activities. The same was true for Martial arts it also witnessed stable numbers of participants, from 36 to almost 40.
On the contrary, table tennis has decreased and increased in an obvious way it started at 25, then suddenly fell down to 20 in 2010, but it increased again to reach a high number of 58.
On the other hand Musical performances starts to have people interest from the year 2005 to reach a good number 18 by the year 2020. Amateur dramatics activity had people's interest in 2000; the proportion was 25%, then it started to drop throughout the years to reach the lowest number of 5 in the year 2020

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several important patterns: film club remains broadly stable and highest, martial arts fluctuates within a narrow range, table tennis rises substantially overall, and amateur dramatics declines to the lowest level. However, the account is only partly accurate and the overview is not clearly separated from details. Table tennis did not start at 25 or fall to 20 in 2010; it began at about 16, rose to 20, stayed there, then climbed sharply to 54. Musical performances began in 2010, not 2005, and film club peaked at about 66 rather than 68. Include a concise overview and report the main turning points more precisely to make the summary more complete and reliable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a generally understandable sequence, moving through the activities and using signposts such as “Firstly,” “On the contrary,” and “On the other hand.” This gives the reader a basic sense of how the information is organised. However, the linking phrases sometimes imply contrasts that are not clearly established, and the response is presented as one continuous block rather than clearly structured paragraphs. The opening repeats the task wording, while the main trends and supporting figures are not grouped into a clear overview and detail sections. Organise the response into an introduction, a brief overview of the dominant trends, and one or two paragraphs comparing related activities. Use transitions only where they accurately express the relationship between the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “relatively stable,” “drop,” “reach,” and “witnessed,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more descriptive phrasing, such as “in an obvious way.” However, some choices are imprecise or unnatural for a graph report: “proportion” and “25%” suggest percentages, although the chart shows participant numbers, and “people interest” is not a natural collocation. “Suddenly fell down” is also less suitable for describing the gradual changes shown. Choose precise terms such as “number,” “figure,” “rose,” and “declined,” and use collocations such as “interest in the activity” only when relevant.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and most of the trends can be understood. However, some grammatical errors remain, particularly in sentence boundaries, verb forms, and articles. For example, “The same was true for Martial arts it also witnessed…” joins two independent clauses without suitable punctuation, while “Musical performances starts” has a subject–verb agreement error. The phrase “from 36 to almost 40” also needs a clearer grammatical frame, such as “ranged from about 32 to 38.” Capitalisation of activity names is inconsistent, and several sentences would benefit from full stops or semicolons. Aim for controlled complex sentences, checking agreement and punctuation before submission.
