Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover all five activities and identify several important patterns, especially the film club’s consistently high participation, table tennis’s strong rise, and the decline in amateur dramatics. Most reported figures are close to the chart. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: amateur dramatics falls to about 20 in 2010, not 15, and musical performances begin in 2010, rather than participants joining in 2005. The overview also says the figures “fluctuated throughout,” which does not capture the contrasting overall trends clearly. To strengthen the response, give a more precise overview of the main changes and check the starting points and key values for each series.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and a final paragraph of details. It also groups several activities together, which helps the reader follow the comparison. However, progression within the detail paragraph is uneven: the account moves from film club to martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis and musical performances without clearly signalling the main contrasts. Some linking is awkward or mechanical, particularly “whereas” and “however” in the overview, and the semicolon before “Although” disrupts the sentence. Use clearer topic grouping—for example, rising activities together and declining or stable ones together—and make each sentence’s relationship to the previous point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “participants,” “fluctuated,” “steadily increased” and “reached,” so the meaning is generally understandable. There is also some attempt to vary expressions for change. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “different engagements,” “stood at highest point,” “went upto,” and “reached at bottom.” Spelling errors such as “styed” and “finshed” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard reporting phrases such as “activities,” “remained at a high level,” “rose to,” and “fell to a low of.” More precise vocabulary will make the comparisons sound clearer and more academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “whereas,” “however” and “although.” The overall meaning can usually be followed, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “The graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the numbers … were fluctuated” uses an incorrect verb form. Articles and sentence structure are also problematic in “A table tennis members were 15” and “A musical performances participants.” The final sentence’s “then finish” does not maintain consistent tense. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and noun phrases, and check agreement, articles and punctuation when combining clauses; these changes would make your varied sentence attempts more controlled.
