Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall pattern: the film club remains the largest activity, while amateur dramatics declines and table tennis rises substantially. You also note that musical performances had no participants in 2000, and your figures for the film club’s starting point and martial arts are broadly consistent with the chart. However, the overview is incomplete: musical performances do not remain low throughout, as they rise to about 18 by 2020, and table tennis becomes the second-largest activity. Some details are vague or inaccurate, such as saying table tennis and amateur dramatics are the same in 2010; their figures are about 20 and 20, respectively, but this comparison needs clearer wording. Develop the key changes with selected figures and a more precise overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and a paragraph of supporting details. The activities are generally discussed in a sensible order, and phrases such as “then increased” help show change over time. However, progression is weakened by abrupt transitions and unclear links between ideas. The overview’s short statements do not clearly establish the main contrasts, and the final paragraph moves from amateur dramatics to table tennis and musical performances without a strong organising principle. Some references, such as “both activities,” require the reader to infer which activities you mean. Grouping the rising activities together and the declining or fluctuating ones together, with clearer linking phrases, would make the report easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a line graph, including “decreased,” “increased,” “fluctuated,” and “throughout the period.” This gives you a workable range for reporting trends. However, several choices are imprecise or repetitive: “contestants” is not appropriate for people taking part in social-centre activities, and “had low at the start” is an awkward way to describe a figure. “Comp aired” is also misspelled, and repeated use of “number of participants” limits variety. Aim for accurate collocations such as “participant numbers,” “stood at,” and “rose sharply,” while checking spelling and choosing terms that fit the context. These improvements would make the description more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the reader can generally understand the trends you report. However, errors in verb forms, agreement and sentence construction are frequent enough to make the writing uneven. For example, “who are participated” should be “who participated,” while “the number … are fluctuated” needs a singular subject and a correct verb form, such as “the number … fluctuated.” The overview fragment “the highest number of participants in Film club” also needs a complete verb clause. Articles and sentence boundaries are sometimes missing or inconsistent, as in “From beginning the number…” and the lowercase “contestants” after a full stop. Practise complete clauses and consistent past-tense reporting.
