Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main patterns: the film club remains the largest, table tennis rises sharply, musical performances grow after starting at zero, and amateur dramatics declines substantially. Most figures and comparisons are consistent with the graph, including the approximate final values. However, the overview is not fully precise: the film club dips slightly before recovering, while martial arts fluctuates rather than moving steadily, and these overall patterns could be summarised more clearly. Some details are also unclear, such as describing table tennis as stable when it rises from about 16 to 20 before levelling off. A more concise overview that groups the strongest rises, falls and stable series would make the key features more complete and clearly developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the activities. This makes the information generally easy to follow, and time markers such as “from 2005 to 2020” help establish sequence. However, the overview and detailed reporting are not clearly separated, and the activity-by-activity paragraphs sometimes read as a list rather than a comparison of related trends. Linking is occasionally awkward, as in “after that it was around 32 again it gone up,” where the sequence is difficult to process. Use clearer sentence boundaries and group the rising series together, then contrast them with the declining or fluctuating ones. This would improve progression and make connections less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “surge,” “stable,” “falling,” and “participants,” so the main information can usually be understood. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or informal for an academic report. “Amount of volunteers” misidentifies the people and uses an unsuitable quantity word; “curriculum” does not describe the activities. Expressions such as “dancing in the data,” “falling apart,” and “most amount” are unclear or unnatural. Spelling errors, including “begining” and “upwords,” also reduce accuracy. Build a more reliable set of trend phrases and use them consistently, for example, “the number of participants,” “fluctuated,” and “declined sharply.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the reader can generally identify the trends being described. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence boundaries are noticeable. For example, “The Musical performances didn't had any increase” should use “didn’t have,” while “it had gotten up to 18 participants” is an awkward tense choice for reporting chart data. In “the first five years it was around 36,” the time phrase needs clearer grammatical framing, and several clauses are joined without adequate punctuation. Practise forming accurate past-tense comparisons and separating related points into complete sentences. More consistent control of these patterns would make your descriptions clearer while retaining some variety in sentence structure.
