Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main patterns accurately: the film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises markedly, and amateur dramatics declines substantially. The overview also notes that musical performances begin at zero and later increase, while the body gives useful approximate figures, including table tennis rising from around 18 to the mid-50s and amateur dramatics falling to about 6. This covers the task well, though some details are less fully reported: for example, martial arts fluctuates around the mid-30s, but its specific changes are not explained, and the film club’s small dip and recovery could be clearer. To strengthen the response further, make comparisons between activities more explicit and ensure the overview describes the main changes precisely rather than saying the film club was “slightly moving.”

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall shape, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details about the five activities. This makes the information generally easy to follow. However, the overview and body are not separated into distinct paragraphs, and several details are crowded into one long final paragraph. Linking is sometimes mechanical or unclear, as in “The table tennis had Another significant increase but from 2000 to 2010…” The capitalisation of “Another” also interrupts the flow. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and grouped details, and organise the body around contrasting trends—for example, stable or fluctuating activities versus those with major rises or falls. This would make progression clearer and reduce the need for repeated “after that.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary to describe trends, including “fluctuations,” “surge,” “increased rapidly,” and “falling sharply,” so the reader can understand the main movements. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal for an academic report. “Amount of volunteers” does not accurately describe the chart’s participant numbers, while “most amount of participants,” “great increase,” and “significant downfall” are awkward. “Works” is also vague for the activities shown. Aim for precise, natural trend language and avoid repeating “great” or “significant.” For example, describe the film-club figure as remaining broadly stable, and say table-tennis participation rose substantially. More accurate collocations would make your descriptions clearer and more appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main trends remain understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make the relationships between ideas less clear. For example, “The number of film club participants had a minor fluctuations” has a mismatch between the article and plural noun, and “The martial arts was moving” has subject–verb agreement problems. The opening of the overview also contains an unnecessary comma and capital letter in “that, The film club,” while “by the time from 2000 to 2005” is not a well-formed time expression. Practise accurate agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, and divide long sentences when they contain several stages of change. This will help you express the trends with greater control.
