Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the five activities and give a broad overview, correctly noting that the film club remained the largest and that amateur dramatics declined. However, several key details are missing or inaccurate. Table tennis is a major feature: it rose from about 16 participants to 54 and became the second-largest activity, but your overview only calls its change “noticeable” and the body does not report its figures or trend. You also describe film-club numbers as reaching nearly 70, whereas they finish at about 66, and use percentages even though the chart shows participant numbers. Musical performances began in 2010, not 2005. Select the main trends more precisely and support them with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an introduction, an overview and body paragraphs, so the reader can recognise a basic report structure. The overview also attempts to group the activities by their general patterns. However, progression is weakened by the long, crowded body paragraph and repeated linking phrases such as “Moreover” and “In addition.” Some references are difficult to follow, particularly “its same followed by the martial art centre,” and the final paragraph combines amateur dramatics with musical performances without a clear comparison. Organise the details into clearer groups—for example, the consistently high film club and fluctuating martial arts, then the contrasting trends in table tennis, amateur dramatics and musical performances. Use linking words only where they clarify the relationship between points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “steadily,” “decline,” “marginally rise” and “dramatic change.” This gives you a basic range for reporting the graph. However, several choices are inaccurate or repetitive: “contestents” is misspelled, “members participants” is redundant, and “under” is repeatedly used where “in” or “for” would be more natural. “Film club” and “martial arts” are activities, not centres, and “65%” incorrectly presents participant counts as percentages. Repeated use of “rise” and “change” also limits precision. Aim for accurate chart vocabulary and vary trend language, while checking spelling and common collocations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences and use time clauses, such as “while we can see” and “but its again rose,” but these structures are often difficult to control. Errors in verb forms and agreement occur throughout: “numbers … had constantly highest,” “its steadily rise,” and “it end up” do not form accurate sentences. The opening also uses the incorrect construction “between 2000 to 2020,” and missing apostrophes in “its clear” and “its again” make the intended meaning less clear. Sentence boundaries are another concern: several ideas are joined into very long sentences with limited punctuation. Practise accurate simple past forms and shorter sentences first, then combine ideas using controlled clauses.
