Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main overall patterns: the film club remains the most popular, table tennis rises sharply, amateur dramatics declines, and musical performances grow from zero. These are relevant features, and most reported figures are broadly consistent with the graph. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: table tennis began at about 16 participants, not “above 50”; it reached about 54 only in 2020. Musical performances first appear in 2010, rather than 2005, and the film-club figure changes slightly rather than remaining entirely the same. The overview also says musical performances “played less than others,” which is vague. To strengthen the response, make the key comparisons precise and distinguish the starting and ending values clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the activity trends. Its progression is generally easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “However,” “Furthermore,” and “In contrast” help signal comparisons. This meets the criterion well, with some evidence of more flexible organisation. At times, though, the links do not accurately express the relationship between ideas: “However” introduces the table-tennis trend after the film-club description, but the contrast is not clearly explained. The overview’s “While” clause is also left without a fully balanced comparison. Grouping the rising activities together and the declining or fluctuating ones together, while using clearer references to years and figures, would make the progression more controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to describe the graph, including “participants,” “fluctuated,” “increased,” and “rose,” and the reader can generally understand the trends. However, the range and precision are uneven, with repeated use of “players” for people taking part in activities and awkward phrases such as “Film club … were played” and “musical performances activity introduced late.” There are also spelling errors, including “performnces” and “remaind,” which reduce accuracy. Choose verbs that describe participation and change directly, such as “attended,” “remained stable,” or “declined,” and use the activity names consistently. More precise collocations would help you report the data naturally and avoid ambiguity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, including “While table tennis…” and “In contrast…,” and the main message is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “in social centre” needs an article, “Table tennis were played” has incorrect agreement, and “Amateur dramatics was playing more at start” uses an unsuitable verb form and omits an article. The opening list also needs clearer punctuation and spacing. Practise describing trends with accurate patterns such as “the number of participants in table tennis rose” and “participation in amateur dramatics fell.” This will preserve your range while improving control.
