Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important features, including the film club’s consistently high participation, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the strong rise in table tennis. Your opening-year comparisons are also broadly accurate. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: table tennis did not rise steadily throughout the period, as it stayed at about 20 participants from 2005 to 2010 before increasing; musical performances began rising in 2010, not 2005; and the film club recovered after 2010 rather than simply remaining at the top. The response also lacks a clear overview that summarises the main changes across all activities. Select the most significant trends and report them precisely, including the contrast between table tennis’s growth and amateur dramatics’ decline.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response is divided into paragraphs and generally moves from the starting figures to later developments, so the reader can follow its broad direction. However, the organisation is not consistently clear: the second paragraph begins with 2010 but then refers back to 2005, and the final paragraph repeats information about martial arts and musical performances rather than completing a planned comparison. Some links are awkward or incomplete, such as “While table tennis got popularity,” which leaves the relationship between ideas unclear. Grouping activities by trend—for example, rising, falling, and relatively stable participation—and using clear time markers would create stronger progression. A concise overview paragraph would also help the reader understand the main message before the details.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “slight drop,” “constant decline,” “rose,” and “remained,” and the activity names are generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Martial artists” refers to people, whereas the chart reports participation in “martial arts”; “got popularity” is not a natural way to describe an increase in participants; and “participated in competition” is not supported by the chart. Spelling errors such as “activites,” “Austarlia,” and “Perfomances” also reduce accuracy. Use precise chart language and vary expressions for increases, decreases, and stability, while checking spelling and choosing natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences and use past-tense forms to describe the period, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “There were few categories film had most participants” joins clauses without suitable punctuation or a linking structure, while “there number of participants rose” shows an incorrect possessive form. The sentence beginning “While table tennis got popularity” is also an incomplete dependent clause in its current form. Agreement and sentence boundaries need attention, as in “Amateur dramatics were the third only 25 took part.” Practise building accurate comparisons with clear subjects and verbs, and use full stops or conjunctions to separate complete ideas.
