Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and cover all five activities, and your overview correctly notes that the film club is generally the most popular while amateur dramatics declines. However, the overview is imprecise: amateur dramatics is not consistently the lowest, and table tennis rises to second place by 2020. The claim that film club and martial arts “stay constant” is inaccurate; both fluctuate slightly, while table tennis and musical performances increase and amateur dramatics falls sharply after 2005. Most importantly, the response is 108 words, below the required 150, and this limits the detail you can provide. Add key figures and comparisons at the start and end of the period to report the main changes more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details, and linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “Conversely” show an attempt to connect contrasting trends. However, the progression is limited because the final paragraph repeats the general idea that two activities rise without giving supporting details. “Overall” is also followed by a broad comparison that needs qualification, and “Whereas” creates a fragment rather than a complete contrast. Group the activities into clear comparisons—for example, stable film club and martial arts figures versus the sharp rise in table tennis—and support each point with figures. This would make the organisation more purposeful and the links between ideas clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “activities,” “declining,” and “drastically,” and the reader can understand the broad trends you intend to describe. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “highest trends” and “lowest trends” do not describe participant numbers naturally, while “trending tremendously higher” is vague. “The number of student” also uses an unsuitable form for this context, and “Melboourne” and “Conversly” are misspelled. Use precise language for quantities and movement, such as “had the highest number of participants,” “fell steadily,” or “rose sharply.” A wider range of accurate trend verbs and comparison phrases would make the report clearer and more appropriate to an academic chart summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple sentences and a contrast structure, and most of your meaning remains understandable. However, control is uneven. “Overall, the film club shows…” needs a space after the comma, and “Whereas, the Amateur dramatics represents…” is not a complete sentence when used this way. In “participation in amateur dramatics declining drastically,” the verb needs a finite form, such as “declined.” The phrase “The number of student … stay constant” also has agreement and number problems; use “The numbers of participants … stayed relatively stable.” There is little variety in sentence structure, and the time period is described mainly in the present tense. Practise complete complex sentences and consistent past-tense reporting for this historical data.
