Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover all five activities and identify the main broad patterns: film club remains high, table tennis rises strongly, and amateur dramatics declines. Several figures are close to the chart, including film club at about 65 initially and table tennis at about 15. However, some descriptions misrepresent the timing or scale of change. Table tennis does not make its huge jump in 2010; it rises sharply from 2010 to 2020, reaching about 54. Musical performances begin at zero in both 2000 and 2005, then increase, rather than making a single “great jump.” The overview also calls film club’s changes fluctuations without clearly summarising its slight overall rise. More precise comparisons and clearer reporting of these stages would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the activities. This helps the reader identify the main subjects. However, progression is weakened by repeated and sometimes unclear linking, especially the repeated use of “but” and “however.” The final paragraph largely repeats earlier points rather than adding a useful comparison. Some references are also difficult to follow, such as “they” and “he” for activities or participant numbers. Grouping the series by trend—for example, rising activities together and declining or fluctuating ones together—would create a clearer progression. Use linking expressions selectively and make each paragraph contribute a distinct feature of the graph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary such as “participants,” “fluctuation,” “downfall,” and “grow up,” and the reader can generally understand which activities you mean. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a graph. “Grow up” is not suitable for figures, while “faces downfall” and “took a great jump” are awkward collocations. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “culb,” “srill,” “gorw,” and “flactuation,” which reduce precision. Build a small set of accurate trend verbs and nouns—such as rise, decline, remain stable, and fluctuate—and check spelling carefully. This would make your descriptions more concise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur throughout. For example, “The graph illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, and “The highest number … in film club in 2000” is an incomplete sentence. In “They faces fluctuation,” the verb form and the pronoun reference are problematic; “they grown” also has an incorrect verb form. The response relies heavily on similar sentence patterns, often joining ideas with “but.” Practise complete sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, and use a few controlled complex structures to compare trends. Proofreading for agreement and tense would improve clarity.
