Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main broad patterns: film-club and martial-arts participation stays within a fairly narrow range, table tennis rises strongly, and amateur dramatics declines to fewer than 10 participants by 2020. However, the response does not give a clear, concise overview separate from the details, and some comparisons are imprecise. For example, table tennis and martial arts are described as having the same number in 2015, although the figures are about 36 and 34 respectively. The statement that musical performances began in 2005 is also inaccurate: participation is first shown in 2010, after zero figures in 2000 and 2005. Select the most important changes and support them with accurate figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some organisation, moving from an introduction to descriptions of several activities, and the reader can generally follow the trends being discussed. However, the first two paragraphs repeat the task description rather than progressing the summary. The later paragraphs combine several series in long sentences, making comparisons harder to follow; for instance, the sentence beginning “The graph shows that number of participants” shifts from film club and martial arts to table tennis. Use a clearer structure: a brief introduction, an overview of the main trends, then focused detail paragraphs grouping stable activities and changing ones. Check punctuation and use linking words only where they clarify the relationship between points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “participants,” “declines,” “rises,” and “ranges,” so the main trends are usually understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or repetitive. “Insights on the number” is not a natural way to introduce what the graph shows, while “visitors who participate” is less precise than the chart’s term, participants. There are also spelling errors such as “activites” and “martal,” and repeated use of “number of participants.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and vary your trend language, for example by using “remained relatively stable,” “increased sharply,” or “fell steadily.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur often enough to make some sentences awkward. Examples include “the number of participants … do not change,” where the subject requires a singular verb, and “the participant in film club are,” which has a number-agreement problem. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention: “shows that number” should include an article, and “not even 10.while” needs a space and a clearer sentence break. The final sentence contains several clauses joined without reliable punctuation. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, plural forms, and sentence boundaries before adding more complex structures.
