Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main categories and give a broad overview: film club remains the most popular, while amateur dramatics declines and table tennis rises. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear. Musical performances did not increase in 2005; participation stayed at zero until 2010, then rose to about 18 by 2020. The overview also says musical performances were initially the least popular, but amateur dramatics was the least popular by the end, without clearly summarising the major changes across the period. Several figures and trends are described vaguely, such as martial arts being in an “almost same situation.” To strengthen the report, select the most important comparisons and describe them precisely, including the sharp rise in table tennis and the steady fall in amateur dramatics.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the activities, and phrases such as “Overall,” “On the other hand,” and “In contrast” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear: the final sentence about musical performances is added after the table-tennis comparison, and the contrast markers do not always express a clear relationship. Some references are also difficult to follow, including “in the players Martial arts” and “the ratio of the participants.” Grouping the rising activities together and the declining or relatively stable ones together would make the comparisons easier to follow. Use linking expressions selectively and ensure each paragraph develops one clear aspect of the graph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “fluctuations,” “edged up,” “collapse,” and “surged sharply.” This gives you a basic range for reporting changes, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and sometimes make the data difficult to understand. For example, “least priority of the members” does not naturally describe the activity with the fewest participants, while “percentage of time table players” is not an appropriate label for table-tennis participants. “Ratio” is also unsuitable where you mean the number of participants. There are spelling and word-form slips, such as “activites,” and repeated reliance on general phrases such as “number of participants.” Use precise activity names and standard trend language, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “Whereas” and “after,” but control is inconsistent. Agreement errors appear in “most of the participants takes part” and “only a minor changes were noticed.” Tense and sentence construction are also problematic: “in 2000 it also increased” conflicts with the chart’s unchanged zero figure, and “it collapse till the end” has an incorrect verb form. Some sentences are incomplete or awkwardly joined, particularly the standalone “Whereas” clause and the long sentence beginning “In 2000, the number…” Practise forming complete sentences with consistent past-tense verbs, accurate subject–verb agreement, and clear punctuation. These recurring errors sometimes make the intended meaning harder to interpret.
