Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several important patterns: film-club participation remains high, martial arts fluctuates, amateur dramatics declines, and musical performances rise. However, the response is incomplete and does not report the full period consistently. The final sentence stops after “from,” leaving the sharp rise in table tennis—one of the graph’s most notable changes—unreported, and musical performances are mentioned only in the overview. Some details are imprecise: film-club numbers fall from about 64 to 60 and then rise to about 66, rather than simply returning to the same level. The response also falls 9 words short of the 150-word minimum; the 8 words copied from the prompt were excluded. Add a complete account of the main trends and key comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph describing some figures. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “While,” and “In turn” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the progression is weakened by the abrupt ending at “from,” which leaves the final point unfinished and prevents a complete account of the data. The overview also groups several trends together without clearly distinguishing the stable series from those that change substantially. Improve the organisation by giving each paragraph a clear purpose, then cover the major trends in a logical order. Complete each sentence and use references such as “this figure” only when the activity being discussed is unmistakable.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “dropped significantly,” “rose sharply,” and “throughout the period,” so the reader can understand the general direction of change. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “number,” “members,” and “dropped,” and some combinations are not natural for describing a graph. For example, “the number of members in film club” is less concise than “film-club participation,” while “rose back to around same number” is awkward. There are also spelling errors in “Th,” “throughot,” and “pefformances,” which reduce accuracy. Use a broader set of precise trend verbs and check spelling carefully; this will make the description clearer and more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including the contrast in “While table tennis members dropped at first it rose sharply” and the time clauses beginning “In the period between 2000 and 2010.” However, errors are frequent, and some sentences are incomplete or difficult to follow. The final sentence ends with “from,” leaving its comparison unfinished. Articles and sentence structure also need attention: “In the period between 2000 and 2010 number…” requires an article before “number,” and the opening “While” clause needs clearer punctuation and completion. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, commas, and sentence endings before submitting.
