Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You cover all five activities and identify the main broad changes: table tennis rises substantially, amateur dramatics declines, and film club remains comparatively high. Several figures are also close to the chart, such as film club at about 65 initially and table tennis reaching roughly 55 by 2020. However, the response is only partly effective because it gives a sequence of individual descriptions rather than a clear overview of the most important patterns and comparisons. Some details are inaccurate: film club is about 62 in 2005, not 60, and amateur dramatics falls from about 26 to 6, not from 28 to 3. The martial-arts figures are also described inconsistently. Add a concise overview and select accurate key comparisons to make the report more complete and clear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows the chart’s categories in a recognisable order, using phrases such as “The second category” and “The last category” to signal transitions. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, the writing is presented as one continuous paragraph, and the repeated category-by-category formula does not create a clear overall progression from an overview to supporting details. Linking is often mechanical, especially the repeated use of “then” and “again,” while the final sentence, “So this the comparison,” does not provide a useful conclusion. Group related trends—for example, the sharp rise in table tennis alongside the fall in amateur dramatics—and use paragraphing and clearer comparisons to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “increase,” “decline,” and “biggest increase,” so the reader can generally understand what is being described. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward. “Knowledge on the numbers” does not describe what the graph presents, and “numbers of actors” misidentifies the participants. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “activites,” “Melbroune,” and “particailly,” which reduce clarity and control. Aim for precise, reusable language such as “the number of participants,” “rose steadily,” and “fell sharply,” and check spelling carefully. Avoid repeating “category” and “participants” in nearly every sentence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response mainly uses simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to connect changes over time using “then” and “to.” These allow the reader to follow the general subject, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently. For example, “the numbers of participants approximately was” has problems with agreement and word order, while “the number of the participants was increase” uses an incorrect verb form. Articles and sentence boundaries are also unreliable, as in “In the 2000” and the run-on sequence describing film-club figures. Practise accurate past-tense reporting structures, such as “The figure rose from 16 to 54,” and separate each main comparison into a complete sentence with correct punctuation.
