Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the five activities and the main broad patterns: film club remains the most popular, table tennis rises markedly, and amateur dramatics declines. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear. The graph reports participants, not percentages: for example, table tennis rises from about 16 in 2000 to 54 in 2020, rather than 18% to 51%. Martial arts is around 36 at both endpoints, so saying it falls to third place in 2020 is misleading; it remains above musical performances and amateur dramatics. The overview also repeats the list of activities instead of clearly summarising the key changes. Select the strongest trends and report figures consistently as participant numbers.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of individual trends. Some sequencing is also signalled by phrases such as “At first” and “Most remarkable changed.” However, the overview largely repeats the introduction, so the progression from general summary to supporting details is weak. Several sentences combine multiple comparisons without making their relationships clear, particularly the discussion of martial arts and the final sentence about musical performances. Linking expressions such as “while,” “by contrast,” and “whereas” could help distinguish trends, and each paragraph could focus on a clear purpose: an accurate overview followed by grouped comparisons. This would make the organisation easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant activity names and make attempts to describe change and ranking, including “increased,” “less popular,” and “took second place.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. “The higest activity” is not a natural way to describe the largest figure, while “Most remarkable changed” and “interested on” are awkward. There are also spelling errors such as “grap,” “Amateurr,” and “partecipants.” Use precise chart vocabulary such as “participant numbers,” “rose,” “declined,” “remained stable,” and “ranked second,” and check spelling carefully. Avoid describing the figures as percentages when the graph shows numbers of participants.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the reader can generally identify the activities and time period being discussed. However, control is inconsistent, especially in longer constructions. For example, “the number of participants are 18%” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “it above 60%” is missing a verb. The sentence beginning “In 2000 to 2005…” also has an unclear time construction, while “it increased 10%” does not clearly express the change. Articles, prepositions, and sentence boundaries need more reliable control. Practise building accurate comparison sentences, such as “Table tennis rose from 16 participants in 2000 to 54 in 2020,” before adding more complex clauses.
