Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall pattern that the film club had the most participants and report several relevant changes, including the sharp decline in amateur dramatics and the strong rise in table tennis. The figures you give for these trends are broadly consistent with the chart. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: table tennis was not the least popular activity overall; it began at the lowest level but rose to 54 by 2020, while amateur dramatics fell to about 6. The comparison that musical performances matched table tennis in 2020 is also incorrect: they had about 18 and 54 participants respectively. Develop the overview around the contrasting trends and include clearer comparisons across the period, rather than relying on isolated details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to a paragraph of details, and the information is generally understandable. You also use time markers such as “in 2005,” “in 2010,” and “between 2010 and 2020” to orient the reader. However, the overview’s claim about table tennis being least popular conflicts with the later account of its rapid growth, and the body paragraph moves abruptly between activities. Grouping the main upward trends together and contrasting them with the decline in amateur dramatics would create clearer progression. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “There were,” and punctuation spacing around transitions is inconsistent.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “fluctuations,” “rose rapidly,” and “drastic fall,” which helps describe changes rather than merely list figures. Some choices, however, are imprecise or unnatural for a graph report. “Contestants” suggests people competing, whereas the chart reports participants; “the least were from the table tennis” is also an awkward way to describe the lowest figure. There are spelling and word-form slips, including “figues,” and “threefold” is not the clearest description of the increase from 20 to 54. Choose precise terms consistently and check spelling and collocations. This would make the adequate range more controlled and accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a time clause in “although the numbers remained same in 2000 and 2020.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “between 2000 to 2020” combines two incompatible prepositions; use “between 2000 and 2020.” In “the number of participants were same,” the singular subject requires “was,” and “remained same” needs an article (“remained the same”). The opening phrase “participants, who had participated” is unnecessarily repetitive and uses an awkward relative clause. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and preposition patterns, and punctuate sentence openings consistently.
