Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover all five activities and provide a clear overview: the film club remains the largest, table tennis rises strongly, and amateur dramatics falls to the lowest level. These are the chart’s main features, and several details are broadly accurate, such as table tennis exceeding 50 by 2020 and amateur dramatics dropping below 10. The response also shows some of the precision expected beyond a basic summary, but a few descriptions are unclear or inaccurate: musical performances begin at zero in 2000, not 2005, and the film club fluctuates before ending slightly higher than it began, rather than remaining almost constant at its starting level. To strengthen the report, compare key figures more precisely and clarify the trends that are currently only generally described.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the activities. Grouping the film club and martial arts before discussing the other three series gives the reader a workable progression. However, connections between ideas are sometimes mechanical: “Moreover,” “Furthurmore,” and “Lastly” repeatedly announce the next point rather than showing a meaningful relationship. Some sentences also combine several trends without clear separation, particularly the film club and martial arts paragraph, while “Whereas” begins an incomplete contrast in the overview. Use clearer topic sentences and organise the details into more deliberate comparisons—for example, the two activities that rise and the one that declines. This would make the progression smoother and references easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “dramatically declined,” “grew,” “fluctuate,” and “increases sharply,” so the reader can understand the broad movements. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision: participants do not “take part in” the numbers, and “reached the second number” is not a natural way to describe table tennis becoming the second-largest activity. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “Asutralia,” “Furthurmore,” and “particpants.” Aim for standard chart language and check spelling carefully. More precise phrases such as “participant numbers,” “rose to second place,” and “remained relatively stable” would make the report clearer and more appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including contrasts and time clauses, but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in phrases such as “table tennis show dramatic soar,” “amateur dramatics decline their participants,” and “musical performances start … but later periods significantly grew.” Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention: “the film club participants were largest in number” is awkwardly formed, and “second number.Whereas” has incorrect punctuation and creates a fragment. These problems sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building accurate comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, tense consistency, articles, and punctuation before submitting. More reliable control of these patterns would support your attempts at varied structures.
