Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies several relevant features, including the rise in table-tennis participation and the decline in amateur dramatics, and it attempts an overall summary. However, the overview is substantially inaccurate: participation did not rise in all activities, since amateur dramatics fell and martial arts fluctuated. The claim that film club and table tennis “finished with the highest figures” overlooks that film club was highest, while table tennis ranked second. Several figures and comparisons are also unclear or incorrect, such as saying table tennis and martial arts were both at 35 in 2015, when they were about 36 and 34. The account is incomplete and ends mid-sentence, so important trends are not adequately reported. Focus on accurate key features and support them with clear comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organisation: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and then paragraphs describing particular activities. The response also uses a few linking expressions, such as “Overall,” “In 2000,” and “by 2020.” However, progression is difficult to follow because the comparisons shift abruptly between series, and some sentences are incomplete or confusing. For example, “Table started with the lowest 18 number at only and martial arts 37 number” does not clearly express the relationship between the figures. The final phrase, “the last film club grew and,” leaves the response unfinished. Group related trends together, use clear topic sentences, and ensure each comparison forms a complete, logically connected sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “overtaken,” “grew steadily,” and “ended,” which helps convey basic trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the data difficult to understand: “access rose” does not describe participant numbers, while “the table item” and “the last film club” are imprecise. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “activites,” “aceess,” and “dramtics,” and repeated use of “number” after figures is unnatural. Use precise terms such as “participation,” “figure,” and “stood at,” and check spelling carefully. More varied, accurate trend language would make the report clearer and more suitable for an academic summary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few longer structures, including “The musical performances grew steadily and overtook…” and a comparison using “while,” but control is inconsistent. Subject–verb agreement errors appear in the opening (“The line graph compare”) and overview (“the martial arts and musical performances… was overtaken”). Articles and sentence construction are also problematic, as in “Table started with the lowest 18 number at only,” and several phrases lack the grammatical structure needed to express a comparison. Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and tense. A wider range of structures will help only when the basic sentence patterns are accurate.
