Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify two important overall features: table tennis rises strongly and amateur dramatics declines to the lowest level. However, the report covers the data only partially, and several details are inaccurate or unclear. Musical performances did not have 11 participants in 2005; the series began at zero and reached about 12 in 2010. The claim that table tennis overtook another activity in 2010 is also unclear and does not match the main comparison: its sharp rise occurs after 2010. The response ends before describing the other trends or giving a clear, accurate account of the period. It is also below the required 150 words. Add a fuller overview and select key figures at the start, middle and end of the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details. The overview signals a comparison between table tennis and amateur dramatics, which gives the reader a useful starting point. However, the progression breaks down in the final paragraph: the sentence about musical performances is difficult to interpret, and “The martial arts” is left unfinished. Connections between activities and years are not consistently clear, while the repeated reference to martial arts does not develop the comparison. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and key details, and group the series by trend—for example, rising activities and declining or fluctuating ones. Clear time markers would also help the reader follow the changes.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “grew fastest,” “highest figure,” and “lowest,” so the main trends can sometimes be recognised. However, the range is limited, and frequent spelling errors—such as “campares,” “diffrent,” “Austrailia,” and “participents”—make the writing less clear and less controlled. Some expressions are also imprecise: “rose more gradually” does not accurately describe martial arts, which fluctuated, and “led in the 2020” is not a natural way to report a figure. Build a small set of accurate trend verbs and comparison phrases, and check spelling carefully. For example, use “fluctuated around the mid-30s” for martial arts and “reached approximately 18” for musical performances in 2020.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a few connected sentences and use basic past-tense reporting, but grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening lacks a clear sentence structure, and the overview has problems with tense and agreement in “the number of participents increase.” Articles and sentence construction are also faulty in “the Musical performances 11 participants led in the 2020,” making the intended meaning difficult to recover. The final fragment, “The martial arts,” is incomplete. Most structures are simple, and the attempt to combine several comparisons in one sentence does not yet produce reliable complex sentences. Practise complete subject–verb–object sentences, consistent past tense, and punctuation between clauses; then check that every sentence has a clear main verb and finishes a complete idea.
