Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall patterns: table tennis and musical performances rose, amateur dramatics declined, and film club and martial arts changed relatively little. The figures you give for table tennis and amateur dramatics broadly match the graph, and you include useful starting and ending points. This meets the task well, while the overview and coverage are not fully precise enough for a stronger performance. For example, table tennis rose sharply from about 20 in 2010 to 54 in 2020, but your account says only that it grew after ten years and gives an approximate final figure. Film club and martial arts are described as stable, though their fluctuations are not reported. Also clarify that the graph concerns a social centre in Melbourne, not “Melbourne and Australia.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the activities. Grouping the rising series together and then discussing amateur dramatics alongside the relatively stable activities gives the reader a workable progression. However, connections between time points are sometimes unclear or mechanical. In the table-tennis paragraph, “After ten year” does not specify the exact period, and “the number is increased slowly over 10 year reached at almost 20” makes the sequence difficult to follow. The final sentence repeats the overview rather than adding detail about film club and martial arts. Use clearer time markers such as “between 2010 and 2020,” and make each paragraph develop its comparison rather than repeat earlier information.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “significant growth,” “remained stable,” and “dramatic fall,” so the reader can understand the main changes. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report awkward. Examples include “accounted significant growth,” “participants number,” “reached at,” and “the number were increased.” “Filmclub” is also incorrectly joined, and “peroids” is misspelled. Aim for standard chart-reporting phrases such as “experienced significant growth,” “the number of participants,” and “rose to.” More precise verbs such as “fluctuated” would also help describe martial arts, whose figures vary rather than remaining completely unchanged.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries occur often enough to make some sentences awkward or unclear. For instance, “the number were increased slowly” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “the number is increased slowly over 10 year reached at almost 20” combines clauses without a clear grammatical structure. The overview also has a comma splice in “over the peroids. The number,” and “Overall, The” uses an unnecessary capital letter. Practise forming accurate past-tense comparisons: for example, “The figure rose gradually to 20 by 2010.” Use full stops and commas to separate ideas, and check agreement between “number” and its verb.
