Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several relevant series and report the broad contrast between the decline in amateur dramatics and the rise in table tennis. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it gives few figures, and some are inaccurate. For example, film club rises from about 64 to 66 participants, not 65% to 67%, while martial arts fluctuates around the mid-30s rather than increasing to 41%. The overview also omits the emergence and gradual growth of musical performances, and the final sentence is unfinished. The response is 50 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to summarise the main features and make useful comparisons. Include a complete overview and cover the key trends with accurate participant numbers.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening statement, an overview, and further comments on individual activities. Linking words such as “Overall,” “But,” and “However” show an effort to connect ideas. Nevertheless, the progression is limited: the activities are listed without a clear comparison or grouping, and the final phrase, “the lowest interst activity is musical per,” leaves the discussion incomplete. Some connections are also awkward, such as “But amateur dramatics declined” after the martial-arts figures. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the introduction, overview, and key details, and group the strongest rises and falls together. This would make the information easier to follow and reduce the impression of disconnected statements.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “declined,” “activity,” and “reached,” and these help communicate the general direction of change. However, the range is limited, and several word-choice and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand: “strength of people” is not a natural way to describe participant numbers, while “highiest,” “ameteur,” and “interst” are misspelled. “65%” also incorrectly presents participant counts as percentages. Use precise chart language such as “number of participants,” “stood at,” and “increased to,” and check spelling carefully. Avoid repeating “activity” and “choice” when describing the series; accurate terms such as “figure” or “participation” would make the summary clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few different sentence forms, including an overview and a contrast introduced by “But,” but the range remains limited and errors occur frequently. The opening has subject–verb disagreement in “The graphs illustrates,” and the time expression “between 2000 to 2020” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. The overview is a fragment: “Overall, five main interest of the partiticipants including…” lacks a complete main clause. There are also missing spaces and punctuation, and the final sentence is unfinished. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example, “The graph shows participant numbers for five activities from 2000 to 2020.” Check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries before finishing.
