Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graph illustrates useful information on the number of participants for various activities of a social centre in Melbourne. This provides the data from the 2000 to 2020. In this report below. I'll identify and report the vital features of quantity of the participants in different activities.
Mainly, the participants of "Film club" are higher than all of the other activities in the whole period from 2000 to 2020. The individuals taking part in the film club are also remain almost same throughout this period and have maintain a quantity between 60 to 70. Secondly, there is "Table tennis" whom numbers are quite rising from less than 20 to more than 50 as of 2020.The participants of "Musical Performance" are also increases after 2005 and so on. There is one activity whom participants are decreased, is the "Amateur dramatics". And the "Martial arts" are just remain in between 30 to 40 numbers of participants in this timeline.
The conclusion is that there are some activities of that social centre are increasing the number of participants as time moves on. Some of them remain just usual But one of them is losing the participants it has in the early times of that period.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall patterns: the film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises substantially, amateur dramatics declines, and martial arts fluctuates within a narrow range. These are relevant features and broadly match the graph. However, some points are too general or imprecise. For example, saying film-club participation “remain[s] almost same” misses its slight fall and subsequent recovery, while “Musical Performance” is only described as increasing after 2005, without noting that it begins at zero and reaches about 18. The overview also says some activities are “increasing” without distinguishing the strong growth in table tennis from the more modest rise in musical performances. Include a few key figures and clearer comparisons to develop the trends more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph describing the activities, and a concluding statement. The main trends are grouped together, and signposts such as “Secondly” and “There is one activity” help the reader follow the comparisons. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical, and the final conclusion largely repeats the preceding summary rather than adding a useful synthesis. Some references are unclear, as in “Some of them remain just usual,” where it is not immediately clear which activities are meant. The opening also breaks awkwardly at “In this report below.” Use more direct links between related trends and organise the body around the most important contrasts, such as rising participation versus declining or stable figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “participants,” “activities,” “increasing,” and “decreased,” so the main information is generally understandable. There is also some attempt to vary wording through “individuals taking part.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise for describing a graph: “useful information,” “whom numbers,” “remain just usual,” and “losing the participants it has” do not express the trends idiomatically. “Quantity” is also less suitable than “number” in this context, and the activity label should be kept consistently as “musical performances.” Aim for accurate collocations such as “the number of participants rose” and “participation remained relatively stable.” This would make the description more precise and fluent without requiring unusually advanced vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can usually understand the intended comparisons. However, errors in verb forms and agreement occur in several key sentences: “are also remain,” “have maintain,” and “participants … are also increases.” There are also problems with sentence boundaries and punctuation, particularly the fragment “In this report below.” and the missing space after “2020.” in the table-tennis sentence. Some sentence patterns are awkwardly formed, as in “There is one activity whom participants are decreased.” These errors make the writing less controlled, even though the main trends remain understandable. Practise using a consistent past-tense reporting pattern, for example, “The number of participants in table tennis rose from about 16 to 54.”
