Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the main stages of the plastic bottle recycling process, starting with collection and sorting through to processing and the creation of end products. However, there are significant omissions and misinterpretations of the diagram. For instance, the writer states that the process 'produces plastic pellets in addition through the machinery it converted into raw material,' which misreads the sequence where pellets are heated to form the raw material. Furthermore, the overview is extremely basic and fails to clearly summarise the overall cyclic nature of the process. While the main steps are touched upon, the lack of accurate detail and underdeveloped overview place this response at Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into four short paragraphs, which provides a basic structural framework. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disjointed. The writer uses very mechanical and awkward cohesive devices and sequencing markers, such as 'Fourthly,' 'In sixth process,' and 'furthermore,' which disrupt the flow of reading. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is somewhat haphazard, particularly in the body paragraph where multiple distinct stages are crammed together without clear logical transitions. Referencing is also occasionally unclear. Overall, the organisational features are inadequate and mechanical, fitting the Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'illustate' instead of 'illustrate', 'materail' instead of 'material', 'distination' instead of 'destination', 'dificult' instead of 'difficult', and 'beneicial' instead of 'beneficial'. The range of vocabulary is limited and inadequate for a standard academic response, mostly relying on simple words like 'process', 'products', 'machinery', and 'useful'. Less common lexical items are either absent or used incorrectly with poor collocation. These noticeable errors and limited lexical variety restrict the score to Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 for adequate task completion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text contains a limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences and flawed attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the result shows that how to make', 'this material going to'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('the process of raw materail is very dificult'). Punctuation is also erratic in places. These frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures, aligning with the Band 5 descriptor.
