How plastic bottles are recycled

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrates a loop process for recycling plastic bottles. This process mainy include nine steps.

Firstly, human throw plastic bottle in dustbin. this litter collect by garbage collection truck that deliver plastic waste to recycling centre for sorting according to eligibility criteria. Then all selected plastic waste compressing into huge block.

In the fifth stage, compressed block send to crusing machine. Where bottom of the crusher water tank set that wash tiny plastic parts. Then it converted into plastic pellets by using specific machine. After that collected plastic pellets heated to form raw material. Plastic raw material used for different products such as a water bottle, t-shirt, pencil, reusable bags. All products again recycled to complete loop.

Overall, process of recycling plastic bottle intially start with collecting plastic bottle from dustbin and then various equipment use to obtain plastic pellets after that heated to obtain raw material for reusable products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover the main stages in the correct general order, from putting bottles in a bin through collection, sorting, compression, crushing, washing, pellet production and heating. You also identify the process as a loop and give examples of end products, so the response addresses the task and includes a relevant overview. Some details are less fully reported: the sorting stage’s separation of acceptable and rejected bottles is only implied by “eligibility criteria,” and the final products are not described as leading back to the collection stage. The overview also repeats the sequence rather than clearly highlighting the transformation from discarded bottles into raw material and new products. A more precise account of these features would make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a generally logical progression, and sequencing expressions such as “Firstly,” “Then,” “In the fifth stage,” and “After that” help the reader follow the process. The stages are presented in a sensible order, with an overview at the end. However, the paragraphing and linking are not fully controlled: the overview comes after the detailed account, and “Where bottom of the crusher water tank set…” is an incomplete sentence that interrupts the flow. Some links are also vague, particularly “All products again recycled,” which does not clearly explain how the loop returns to the first stage. Grouping the overview first, then describing the stages in connected paragraphs, and using clearer references between stages would improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant process vocabulary, including “recycling centre,” “compressing,” “plastic pellets,” “raw material,” and “reusable products,” which allows the reader to understand the general sequence. There is some variety in how the stages are described, but word choice and spelling errors are noticeable and occasionally make the meaning less precise. For example, “dustbin” is less suitable for this diagram than “recycling bin,” while “crusing” is a misspelling and “specific machine” is too vague for a process description. Phrases such as “huge block” and “garbage collection truck” could also be made more precise. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling, while retaining the useful technical terms you already use.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sequence of stages and the clause “that deliver plastic waste to recycling centre.” However, control is limited, and errors in verb forms, articles, agreement and sentence boundaries occur across the response. Examples include “human throw,” “this litter collect,” “all selected plastic waste compressing,” and “compressed block send.” The fragment beginning “Where bottom of the crusher…” also needs to be joined to the preceding sentence or rewritten as a complete sentence. These errors sometimes make relationships between actions unclear. Practise forming passive constructions for process descriptions—for example, “the bottles are collected” and “the plastic is compressed”—and check each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb.
